Shi Jiang

Mentor

Ms. Shi Jiang is a certified PreK-12 Mandarin teacher in Ohio, and she currently teaches Chinese 1-5 and AP Chinese at the upper-division of University School in Cleveland. From 2014 to 2016, she taught all levels of Chinese classes at John Carroll University. As a language lover, Shi Jiang traveled to Chile in Latin America and taught Chinese to Spanish speakers in Santiago, Chile for a year. Ever since Ms. Jiang joined University School in 2018, she has been working on developing a Chinese language curriculum from K-8th grade and expanding the Chinese program at the upper school. As a strong advocate of using authentic materials in task-based projects, Shi Jiang focuses on designing student-centered activities using backward design and using 100% target language in a communicative context. Apart from teaching, Shi Jiang actively serves as the faculty advisor for the East Asian Platform at school, organizing events for students to honor their Asian identity and make their voices heard by the community. Since 2020, Ms. Jiang has served on the Global Citizenship Advisory Board at University School, leading both domestic and international trips to foster students’ global identities. As a strong believer in integrating technology into Chinese classes, Ms. Jiang also serves as the core member of the Online Academy at school. In May 2022, she was the recipient of the Ingersoll Award at University School.
