Reminiscence:

Participation in STARTALK of UVA is a precious opportunity in my teaching career, and it is also hard working as well as a valuable part of my life. After this three-week “Chinese teacher boot camp” training, I further realize that, in order to become an extraordinary Chinese teacher, not only it is essential to pay extra effort, but also it desires enough wisdom. It is lucky for me to join STARTALK of UVA and listen to Dr. Tseng ‘s lectures. What I learnt and experienced in this workshop will be leave a pleasant memory in my whole life, and I will make it a part of my practice in my future Chinese teaching. What I have learned is summarized as follows: 1) Design a lecture by centering at students. Every class should have activities in correspondence with Interpersonal, Interpretive and Presentational themes, and improve their capabilities on listening, speaking, (reading, and writing). 2) Create an environment of all in Chinese or immersion Chinese, and make full use of authentic materials. 3) Decompose big and complicate activities into small and simple ones, and thus make the learning easier to students. 4) If possible, implement as much as possible elements of Chinese culture into class teaching.
