Reminiscence:

UVA Star Talk program is definitely one of the most inspiring, challenge and rewarding experience I have had in my life. The first week we had a lot of reading, writing and thinking. It was big challenge since English is my second language. I had to stay so late to finish the work. I heard many of the teachers could not sleep until 1 or 2 o’clock in the morning. The next two weeks we started to teach. It was tough because I had to give away my old teaching style to meet the requirement using 100% target language to teach in the class. I have never been so nervous, uncertain and upset in my teaching career. After 1st class, Dr.Tseng’s positive commend really means so much to me. The last two classes seemed much easier than the 1st one. I think I conduct my classes quite well using the teaching methods we learned in class. I am very lucky to be selected in this program. I learned a lot from UVA Star Talk program. I want to thank Star Talk to give me the opportunity to update the new pedagogy and practice in the acquisition of teaching Chinese as second language. Dr. Tseng is very knowledgeable. Her conduct of lessons inspired everybody. It is really an honor to be one of Dr. Tseng’s students. The other two teachers are wonderful teachers. I am deeply impressed the activities they know. They stayed up very late to help everybody go through all the lesson plans. Also other teachers are always ready to help whenever I need. I appreciated the opportunity to take Chinese teaching methods course in UVA. I cannot wait to applying the theories and techniques in my class. I hope I could be selected to this program again next year.
