I have participated in several STARTALK Teacher Programs in the past. Every STARTALK Program planted a seed in my teaching career. I always love what Steve Jobs once said, “you can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backward. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future.” Those seeds I referred to are the dots that guide me through my teaching journey. This UVa STARTALK led by Dr. Tseng has been withheld for many years since STARTALK was initially created. There are obvious reasons why great programs should be sustained and supported. With Dr. Tseng’s years of teaching experience and leadership in the field of Chinese Teaching in the US, the quality of the program is second to none. Each of the team leaders in this program also plays an important role when mentoring fellow teachers. The best treasure is the fellow teachers who are like the best companions throughout the journey. This program is highly competitive to apply so if you are lucky enough to get in, it’s like winning a lottery.
